Nestled in Assonet, Massachusetts near the quiet waterways and aromatic pine forests of historic Bristol County lies Castle Norwegian Fjord Farm. Our passion is breeding the finest Fjord horses noted for their calm, well-mannered nature. Castle Norwegian Fjord Farm was recognized for its excellence in 1999 when it was awarded the prestigious Beaver Dam Farm Award. At almost every show the Fjord horses of Castle Norwegian Fjord Farm are singled out for their docile nature
.
Much of our horses’ pleasant nature can be traced to the personality of their sire, our stallion, Stav Gutten. After his initial two months of saddle training in the summer of 1998, Stav was entered into the 1998 Fjord Show. Based on a favorable experience in that show, and the joy with which Stav took to the show ring, he was entered into the open novice class of a show on a local circuit. Being surrounded by Fjords all his life, this show was a bit different from what he was used to. There were no other Fjords, and most of horses he had to compete against were substantially larger than he was. Unfazed by the unfamiliar surroundings, he remained the perfect gentleman. He just took everything in stride, listened to his rider’s commands, and never disappointed. He went into his first class placing first after first after first. With such a success at his first show it was decided to show the whole circuit. To the surprise of everyone, but the staff at Castle Farms who knew him, Stav ended up the champion of the year by a 50 point margin.

Due to the gentle nature of our horses, Castle Norwegian Fjord Farm is open to all people, especially children. Our community outreach goals include helping young people develop responsibility, learn teamwork, and improve self-esteem. To those ends there are three major rules at the farm. You finish what you start. You put back what you take out. You treat everyone with respect. Associate junior riders are put in full responsibility of a horse, taking care of its every need. They are given guidance along the way to insure they are developing sound fundamental skills. At show time they assist with the packing, loading, unpacking, and set up. Horses are shown by their riders. This approach results in teamwork at its best; providing a beautiful, well-kept area, happy horses, solid organization, and a successful show.
We invite you to experience the excellent temperament of this wonderful breed with Castle Norwegian Fjord Farm's supervised riding program. The program is only $30 per hour for weekly clientele. It is a great way to become familiar with these enjoyable Fjord horses.
